New ARPANSA EME Fact sheets
The Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency (ARPANSA) have issued two new fact sheets covering fixed wireless communications for the National Broadband Network (NBN), and Smart Meters.
In terms of exposure levels for Smart Meters, ARPANSA states:
"The combination of the relatively low power of the transmitters, their location on the outside of buildings and the very short time spent transmitting means that the overall exposure from smart meters is very low and well below exposure limits, even when a number of devices are communicating simultaneously"
ARPANSA's summary on health for the National Broadband Network states:
"NBN base stations use electromagnetic radiation to provide high speed broadband services to the community. The base stations use similar technology to 4G mobile phones and produce very low exposures to EMR (or EME) in the surrounding area, even very close to the installation. There are no established health effects from these very low levels of RF EMR"
